How does Robert Louis Stevenson create mystery and suspend in Jekyll and Hyde

The mystery in Jekyll and Hyde is involved with Jekyll being the good guy and Hyde being a brute man it all started  when Hyde trampled   over a little girl, then he had to give some money to the girls family.

chapter 1

In this chapter they describe Hyde behaviour  and the way he stranded the child

chapter 6

london was startled by a crime of singular ferocity and rendered all the more notable by the high position of the victim.

stevenson creates mystery in all of the chapters specially in chapter 4 when hyde kills someone with the stick that utterson gave Jekyll as a present for his birthday in the same chapter the maid descibed him as a mad man, also in every chapter Stevenson Lets us know how hyde takes Jekylls body over the mystery was also if Utterson was going to find out who hyde really was
